As I was browsing Etsy and looking at one of my favorite designers shops, I found this screen printed band poster by Nate Duval. The pattern on the poster really caught my eye, and I was especially excited because Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is one of my favorite bands. I thought that the poster was really appropriate for the band because it is very unique, eccentric and colorful. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are a very odd and interesting group, and their music is far from what you would call mainstream. I thought that the poster was perfect for them because the pattern is so detailed and fun. All of the lines and shapes kind of form together to create a texture. I think that the poster really looks like it has depth, which I thought made it very interesting. It almost confused my eyes to look at it too closely. The contrast between the colors and the shapes work together well to create harmony within the entire piece. Although the name of the band is small, there is enough emphasis on it that you want to read it. The pattern draws your eye towards the center, and then the contrast in color of the text makes it stand out even more. Even though I like all of Nate Duval's work, this piece is probably my favorite so far.

Okay, so I love this for a couple of reasons. One reason is the color palette. I think it's pretty unique. Personally, I would avoid using orange and beige together, but it works will in the piece. Plus the blue compliments the orange. I also love this piece for the patterning. It sort of reminds me of a pattern you would find in Native American cultures. The shapes in the pattern all work together and create different shapes together. It's intricate and interesting to look at.
Thanks! Yeah I really liked the patterning also. And yeah, the color pallette is not what I would have chosen if I made it, but I think it works well for this piece. I really like the native American style in general, so I think that's partially why I liked it so much.
For some reason, I just love the central positioning of the type! Perhaps its just the busy flow of colors that seem to bounce off of it, but either way its a great piece! I feel a spiritual inspiration in seeing this too.
Thanks Evan! Yeah I think the centered rule really helps with the balance of the poster. It's a very busy peice with all of the patterns going on, so I think the fact that it is in the center makes it easier to read and more noticable.
I love this piece! There is so much detail involved and I think it has a sort of tribal flare to it. It looks like Nate Duval did a great job at creating a poster that is very fitting for the band!
Thanks Kenzie! I think it has a tribal flare to it, and although the band has nothing to do with that, I think something about it makes it works really well.
